I began practicing criminal defense law in state and federal courts almost 30 years ago. More than 20 years ago I limited my practice to criminal cases only.

For many years I did both trials and appeals, both in private practice and as an assistant federal public defender, but eventually I saw a need for an appeals-only practice.

To better serve my clients, several years ago I limited my practice to appeals only.

I handle criminal appeals in the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals and the Tennessee Supreme Court. I also handle criminal appeals in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, which covers Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan, and in the United States Supreme Court.
